Main Courses

Scriptwriting

with Phil Lollar

This course is a study of general creativity from a Christian perspective. We create because we were created by the Great Creator, who imbued each of us with His creativity. Though that creativity takes many forms, our primary, foundational creative outlet is STORY, both written and oral. We will examine storytelling in film, broadcasting, and written creative storytelling, vis-à-vis Christianity and the arts. The creative process and how it relates to Christian principles, faith, and practice is emphasized via lectures, in-depth discussions of films, audio, and written stories, and work on written and creative projects. Emphasis is placed on spiritual and artistic development, and how Christian creatives can engage their own and the greater community via creative arts. Finally, by studying the foundational principles of story, students will learn to better create their own stories, and then put what they have learned into practice by creating their own short audio drama.

Music Composition

with John Campbell

Course description coming soon.

Photography

with Donnie Rosie

In this course, you will learn the basics of photography as well as advanced concepts, such as long exposure, HDR, portraiture, and other techniques. We will also talk about videography for the highbred photographer.

In addition to this, you will learn pro techniques for editing in Lightroom and suggestions for upgrading your own photography gear.

Sound Design

with Allen Hurley

Film Making

with John Fornof and Allen Hurley

Biblical Theology

with Colin Smith
This workshop explores how biblical texts disclose their meaning, with a particular focus on the literary structure of the Bible. How does our understanding of the biblical text change when we focus on how the Bible presents truth as opposed to the meaning we acquire from a casual reading? Biblical Theology students will be equipped to understand the structure, historical development, and use of language in the Bible. This course will enable students to study the Bible in a way that is grounded in the truth and beauty of the Word of God.

Visual Arts

with Stephen Crotts

Stephen Crotts is an illustrator based out of South Carolina who specializes in wood-block printing with the goal to always communicate the true, the good, and the beautiful in his artwork. Stephen's pursuit of excellence and beauty has given him the opportunity to partner with many prominent artists and publishing companies, including Andrew Peterson, Phil Wickham, Crossway Books, the Rabbit Room, and more! Join us this summer as Stephen teaches the skill of keeping a sketchbook and creating a woodblock print from start to finish.

Timber Framing

with Josh Coleman

Timber Framing is an ancient craft using traditional wooden joinery to build structures that combine carpentry, engineering, and art. Hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joinery, held together with wooden pegs, create structural sculpture which can serve to span greater distances than each individual member could on its own.  With the use of hand tools, students will learn the basics of chisel and mallet, drilling for wooden pegs, fitting joinery together and raising a completed timber frame.

Working shoulder to shoulder, we will emphasize the value of teamwork, cooperation, and communication to create something new that would not be possible for each of us on our own. Our lessons will be from the Bible and our guide will be historical architectural designs from around the world.

Plan to work hard, have fun, share wisdom, and learn new carpentry skills.

Horticulture

with Noah Sanders

There is a growing need in our troubled times for people to learn how to grow food in a simple, uncomplicated manner that produces joy and freedom in their life. But to really do this they also need the transforming hope of the message of Jesus. Foundations for Farming is an approach to food production that is based on the heart of Jesus and produces incredible yields through simple, low-tech methods.

Through tools like the WellWatered Garden, we seek to give people simple approaches that enable people to grow food in a simple way that is easy to pass on to others. Our vision is to equip a network of trainers about the United States and the world who can help meet the growing demand for solutions to the looming global food crisis.

We will be training students to teach others from a Gospel-based Biblical worldview using the Well-Watered Garden training program.

By the end of the training you will be able to:

  • Communicate how the gospel relates to agriculture.

  • Understand what it takes to have soil that produces abundant crops naturally

  • Manage your garden in a way that produces joy and makes a profit.

  • Use eight simple questions to create an easy, but effective garden plan.

  • Clear a spot for your garden without plowing or tilling

  • Understand how to make thermal compost and natural organic fertilizers

  • Layout garden beds with a simple system that allows for ease of management and space for a variety of crops.

  • Plant seeds or transplants with a simple spacing system that is easy to follow and remember.

  • Care faithfully for your garden with three simple tasks.

  • Share your faith in Jesus through your garden.

  • Train others in what you have just learned.

We may also cover more in-depth topics like:

  • Scaling up for homestead-level food security

  • Growing for markets

  • Alternative (off-grid) energy

  • Backyard chickens

  • Home dairy operations

There will also be time for discussion and questions for more specific topics pertinent to the students attending.

Whether you are a full-time farmer, part-time homesteader, backyard gardener, farmer wanna-be, or someone interested in incorporating agriculture as part of your ministry or church, this training is designed to help you in the journey God has you on. Our goal is that you will leave equipped to live for Jesus, excel in agriculture, and make disciples!

access point to communities and demographics all over the world. Amazed audiences have

heralded the counter-cultural approach to storytelling as “exceeding even Broadway!”

Perform with Professionals

Throughout the week, students will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn the techniques

of stage performance from the Arise Collective Staff, while simultaneously rehearsing and

performing an original spoken word scripture piece with the Arise team!

DESCRIPTION

Storytelling is one of the most profoundly impactful ways to share the gospel and reveals the One we

were made in the image of. As artists, we have the privilege of revealing the nature and character of

the Heavenly Father, the ultimate creative and storyteller!

During this immersive week in the voice and stage acting track, you will:

● Establish biblical philosophy for the arts (Colossians 2:8.)

● Discover your physical “instrument” through voice and movement.

● Explore performance technique with studio exercises.

● Rehearse and perform a multi-disciplinary performance alongside Arise Collective at the completion of the Guild.

Designed and written by the Arise Collective team, an original piece based on the ministry of Jesus will be performed at a theater stage on location. Prepare to contend for your faith, be disciples in seeking the Kingdom, surrender audaciously, proclaim the goodness of the Father and fall deeper in love with the One who is writing your story.

Student Testimonies

I was challenged to keep pursuing God and commit my heart fully to Him, holding nothing back! Being out in the country for a week away from the world, studying the Word, was an amazing way to reconnect with the Lord!
— Sophia D.
I experienced exploring the word of God in a deeper way, which led me to draw closer to Him! A dedicated week to reflect on His goodness and godliness helped redirect my heart and attitude on many levels, allowing me to refocus on more of Him and less of me. I was also encouraged to see so many younger classmates using their God-given gifts and talents to glorify God!
— Jeff W.
I always imagined that Heaven would be like Lamplighter, especially during worship. I have always had a small fear of the Second Coming because I feel like I will never be able to do enough for God and change the world for Christ. Lamplighter helped to give me a longing for The End where I can worship God wholly by serving Him alongside others whose hearts are on fire for Christ.
— Lucas K.

Help a Student Attend the Summer Guild

If God has given you the desire and the ability to enable His work through others, please consider making a contribution to the Lamplighter Guild Scholarship Fund.

Generous contributions for the first Lamplighter Guild made it possible for many students to attend who would have otherwise not been able. Because of your gifts, these students encountered God in a life-altering way that many have not yet been able to put into words.
