2024 LAMPLIGHTER GUILD
July 14-19, 2024 in Mount Morris, New York
Hosted at the Lamplighter Campus
The 2024 Summer Guild is designed to invite you into the presence and power of God through the arts, guest lectures, fellowship, worship, and prayer.
Courses and Electives
This summer's Lamplighter Guild has expanded to give students the opportunity to experience even more! Every student will attend one dramatic arts course AND one elective. The main courses consist of Scriptwriting, Music Design, Sound Design, and Voice Acting. The electives include Interpretive Dramatic Ballet, Visual Arts, Photography, and Choir.
Scriptwriting
with PHIL LOLLAR
-
This course is a study of general creativity from a Christian perspective. We create because we were created by the Great Creator, who imbued each of us with His creativity. Though that creativity takes many forms, our primary, foundational creative outlet is STORY, both written and oral. We will examine storytelling in film, broadcasting, and written creative storytelling, vis-à-vis Christianity and the arts. The creative process and how it relates to Christian principles, faith, and practice is emphasized via lectures, in-depth discussions of films, audio, and written stories, and work on written and creative projects. Emphasis is placed on spiritual and artistic development, and how Christian creatives can engage their own and the greater community via creative arts. Finally, by studying foundational principles of story, students will learn to better create their own stories, and then put what they have learned into practice by creating their own short audio drama.
Music Design
with ZACHARY HORNER
-
Zachary Horner is an American film composer and orchestrator. A couple of recent of notable projects include The Thorn (2023) and Disciples in the Moonlight (coming to theaters in July). He holds a Master of Arts in Orchestration for Film, Games, and Television from the University of Chichester (in partnership with ThinkSpace Education) and has over a decade of experience in the film industry.
Zachary is excited to relate his experiences in writing music for films and hopes to leave students with as much practical training and advice as he can. In the course of the week, students will be a part of scoring audio dramas from stem to stern which will afford them the opportunity to see Zachary’s setup, workflow, and creative choices.
Photography
with MANDY PALLOCK
-
A camera can be a bridge or a barrier—A tool to tell the story that God has laid on your heart, or a means to separate you from the action He is sending your way.
How will you use your camera for the glory of God?
This six-day photographic masterclass will be custom-designed to meet the interests and needs of the artists. After initial consultation and portfolio review on the first day, we will dive into specific sessions, photo shoots, and review and critique. Each day will entail teaching sessions and hands-on location shoots, with time for review and critique. Students will create a Week in Review video slideshow that showcases their own and other Guild students’ work.

Visual Arts
Teacher: TBD
Sound Design
with ALLEN HURLEY
-
Allen Hurley, the the master-mind behind the sound design for Lamplighter Theatre, will be teaching sound design at this year’s Guild!
Learn to tell stories through sounds that will help your audience to see with their ears.
Allen Hurley specializes in creating rich, layered sound effects that make you feel like you’re actually “there.” From celery sticks, to cornstarch, to leather shoes, students will learn to use creative methods to create immersive and lifelike sounds that ignite the imagination of the listener.
Voice Acting
with DANIEL CROSS
-
Your voice is your instrument—acting is how you use that instrument.
Throughout the week, students will learn how to tune their “instruments” and enhance their acting skills through improvisation, cold reads, building a character, auditioning, and working as an ensemble to tell compelling, truthful stories. There will also be a crash course in the voice over industry, covering topics such as home studios; tech; coaching; marketing; booth etiquette; and the all-important mic technique! Most importantly, it’s going to be a ton of fun!
Whether you are new to a booth, or are an experienced pro, come and jump on in to the wonderful world of VO (voiceover)!
Dramatic Ballet
with LIGHT OF THE WORLD BALLET
-
For the first time, Light of the World Ballet will be instructing students in interpretive dramatic ballet as an elective course!
Students will be introduced to caricature (pantomime) acting paired with choreography and ballet. They will explore how to creatively communicate story through synchronized movement and expression.
This elective will culminate in a full-length stage acting and ballet performance.
Light of the World Ballet is a full-time professional ballet company which performs locally, state-wide, and tours nationally and internationally (Burma, China, Hungary, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Philippines and more). The desire of the company is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an unconventional way as the art of dance moves through barriers to minister the love and power of the Holy Spirit.
Biblical Theology
with DR. WARREN GAGE & DR. MARK HAMBY
Choir
with SARAH PRENEVOST
-
In 2nd Chronicles 20 we read about a king entering into battle.
King Jehoshaphat cries out to the Lord for deliverance and is told in response that, “the battle is not yours, but God’s.” What does the king do? He humbles himself before the Lord and worships Him. He then appoints singers “that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever….and when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah, and they were smitten.”
Humble worship and praise is powerful.
The goal of this summer’s choral elective is to train singers to come together as one voice to praise the Lord in “the beauty of holiness,” and in so doing bring honor to His name, cause the enemy to flee, and declare a message of hope!

Sarah Prenevost has been leading The Masters Guild Chorale since 2021, and is excited to once again form a Summer Guild Chorale as an elective for the 2024 Lamplighter Summer Guild.

Help a Student Attend the Summer Guild
If God has given you the desire and the ability to enable His work through others, please consider making a contribution to the Lamplighter Guild Scholarship Fund.
Generous contributions for the first Lamplighter Guild made it possible for many students to attend who would have otherwise not been able. Because of your gifts, these students encountered God in a life-altering way that many have not yet been able to put into words.
