Story Creation
Story is king! This common saying is nowhere more true than here at the Summer Guild. Our story creation students got to dive straight into the scriptwriting process under the instruction of Dr. Daniel Schwabauer. By breaking down the events of the Bible, especially the parables, the students learned the importance of structure and archetypes for powerful storytelling. Together, their work culminated in four scripts that were recorded as audio dramas by our voice acting students! But more importantly, they learned how God writes our story and the amazing plans He has for us.

Voice Acting
When God created the earth, He spoke it into existence. There is great power in the words we speak, and that is just what our Voice Acting students discovered this week!
Under the instruction of Lamplighter Theatre actor Jake Phillips, the students learned the theory and techniques behind voice acting, along with a trove of industry insights. But what truly hit home was Jake’s encouragement for the students to follow hard after Christ. Blending together both voice acting and the pursuit of God, our voice acting students experienced a life-transforming week like no other.
Sound Design
Allen Hurley, the master-mind behind the sound design for Lamplighter Theatre, taught sound design at this year’s Guild!
Students learned to tell stories through sounds that helped their audience “see with their ears.”
Allen Hurley specializes in creating rich, layered sound effects that make you feel like you’re actually “there.” From wind chimes, to buckets of water, to plungers on gravel, students learned to use creative methods to create immersive and lifelike sounds that ignite the imagination of the listener.
Music Design
Standing on the foundation of biblical theology, composer Steve Rosen opened the students’ eyes to God’s brilliant design within the world of music. The students got to delve into chord structure and harmonies, culminating in scoring the four audio dramas created during the guild. By the end of the week, the students discovered how we can learn more about God and His glory through the art of music!
Biblical Theology
This year we had four amazing Bible teachers— Radha Manickam, Dr. Lew Sterrett, Dr. Warren Gage, and Dr. Mark Hamby. They brought four unique perspectives to the Word of God and truly made it a class to remember!

Stage Acting/Choir
Arthur Dexter of Kingdom Theatre and Choir Teacher, Sarah Prenevost, teamed up in stage acting and choir to create an original musical production, “Who Touched Me?” Each student learned how to combine the elements of singing, blocking, script memorization, and dramatic performance to be able to share the gospel through theatre. Their work culminated in a final performance, giving the audience something truly incredible.
Visual Arts
Bringing a unique perspective to oil painting, Mark Baral walked his students through drawing and sketching basics, color theory, and his painting methods—applying them all in the context of plein air painting. This week provided them with the ability to study God’s wonderful design and to give attention to the detail all around them. By working in the midst of God’s creation, the students were able to see the world with fresh eyes and new joy!

Photography
A camera can be a bridge or a barrier—A tool to tell the story that God has laid on your heart, or a means to separate you from the action He is sending your way.
How will you use your camera for the glory of God?
This six-day photographic masterclass was custom-designed to meet the interests and needs of the artists. During the course, photography teacher Mandy Pallock, challenged her students to capture this year’s theme in action, and they did just that! Enjoy their work in the gallery below, and see their slideshow at the top of the page for a view of the entire week!

Timber Framing
Under the masterful instruction of Josh Coleman, our timberframing students built a brand new gazebo on Lamplighter’s 60 acre Overbrook property. Each of the students learned the importance of cooperation, communication, and collaboration as they built this beautiful structure.

Team building cardboard extravaganza!
Students teamed up to race in one-of-a-kind cardboard creations they each built. Working together with their strengths and weaknesses, teams had to creatively problem-solve to build their “vehicle” and race to the finish line!
