Dear Guild Alumni,
We want to sincerely thank you for attending this year’s Guild—it was truly a life-giving and life-transforming week, and we are so glad that you could be part of it.
As you know, this year’s theme was “Outrageous, Contagious Joy”—a joy we definitely experienced this July. What a story God has written! From the teachers and classes to the fellowship, devotions, worship, flowers, and the food; all came together in a brilliant symphony of delight, truth, and wisdom! But how do you find (and keep) that joy in your day-to-day life?
Cling to Jesus like Mary Magdalene! Christ is your life. Humble yourself like Hezekiah. Keep short sin accounts. Trust in the Lord like Jeremiah. Hope against hope. Surround yourself with good friends (and good books) like young Finnian Jones. Pursue (and don’t waste) the gifts and interests God has given you. Keep moving forward and don’t forget to do all these things with ENTHUSIASM!
That being said, the Summer Guild can also be one of those “mountaintop” experiences, and the thrill, motivation, and enthusiasm can quickly ebb after a week like we just experienced. We know that Satan will do everything he can to steal away the seeds that were planted during the week, so we are here to encourage you to stand, and after having done all, to stand firm!
Study the Word. A major component of the Guild is focusing on the life-giving and life-transforming Word of God. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to look over the list of scripture memory verses that were included in your Guild program (these will also be attached below). Not only should you look over them, but read them, meditate on them, and actually memorize them! Never underestimate the power of God’s Word to transform your life—especially in those times when you don’t feel it’s doing anything. When we treasure God’s word in our hearts then the “treasures” of this world will quickly lose their appeal. A great verse to start with is Psalm 119:37, “Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.”
Flee youthful lusts. Set aside those things that have been distracting you from spending time with the Lord—whether it be too much sleep, the internet, friends, or laziness. Find an accountability partner who can help you to continue in your resolutions and resist temptations. “Pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).
Be thankful. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Want to know what the will of God is for your life? It is this: to live a life marked by prayer, rejoicing, and thanksgiving!
We would love to keep encouraging you in your faith through the Word of God, fellowship, and prayer. Listed below are some resources that may help you stand strong as you fight the fight of faith. And we are confident of this, “That he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
In Christ,
The Lamplighter Team
