Lessons from the Masters

  • How to Study the Bible with Colin Smith

This workshop explores how biblical texts disclose their meaning, with a particular focus on the literary structure of the Bible. How does our understanding of the biblical text change when we focus on how the Bible presents truth as opposed to the meaning we acquire from a casual reading?

  • Story is Everything with Phil Lollar

This course is a study of general creativity from a Christian perspective. We create because we were created by the Great Creator, who imbued each of us with His creativity. Though that creativity takes many forms, our primary, foundational creative outlet is STORY, both written and oral. We will examine storytelling in film, broadcasting, and written creative storytelling, vis-à-vis Christianity and the arts.

  • Horticulture with Noah Sanders

  • The Art of Timber Framing with Josh Coleman

Timber Framing is an ancient craft using traditional wooden joinery to build structures that combine carpentry, engineering, and art. Hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joinery, held together with wooden pegs, create structural sculpture which can serve to span greater distances than each individual member could on its own. With the use of hand tools, students will learn the basics of chisel and mallet, drilling for wooden pegs, fitting joinery together and raising a completed timber frame.

Working shoulder to shoulder, we will emphasize the value of teamwork, cooperation, and communication to create something new that would not be possible for each of us on our own. Our lessons will be from the Bible and our guide will be historical architectural designs from around the world.

Plan to work hard, have fun, share wisdom, and learn new carpentry skills.
